To Do List 2011

 

Also hier kommt meine 2011er To-Do-Liste, die ich gelegentlich ergänzen und abhaken werde. Ich veröffentliche sie bewusst hier, damit ich einen grösseren Druck habe, sie abzuarbeiten! Sie ist echt lang. Oh je - worauf lasse ich mich bloss ein.

So I worked out this big 2011 To Do List, that I will add to or cross off from time to time. I am publishing it here on purpose to put a bigger pressure on me to follow through with it. It's a lot! What am I getting myself into?

The List:
(nur in Englisch - ich hoffe soweit reicht auch das schlimmste Englisch noch ;-))


- make room and there for sell or donate the following items:
   - white sofa
   - 2 white modern armchairs
   - daughter Mia's loft bed     changed my mind
   - Mia's crib and changing table
   - some off the furniture stored in the basement 
     (don't even know exactly what is there)
   - books, clothes and toys
- organize the following rooms:
   - daughter Mia's
   - my office
   - kitchen (new cabinets???)
   - laundry/ storage room
   - downstairs hallway
- build or have built:
   - shelving unit around door for Mia's room
   - shelves and heater cover for living room
- mount:
   - curtain rods (in most rooms)
   - wall shelves (Luzie's room, hallway, office, kitchen)
- paint:
   - dining table
   - 10 dining chairs
   - vintage stools
   - daughter Luzie's desk and desk chair
   - inside of entrance door
   - banister and railing of staircase
- sew:
   - roman shades and drapes for dining/ living room
   - roman shades for office
   - drapes for daughter Luzie's room
   - dust ruffle for master bed ordered one at H&M Home instead
   - headboard slip-cover for master bed
   - curtains for storage room
   - seat covers for dining chairs
   - finally start white quilt after collecting 
     fabric for 7 years now
- upholster:
   - vintage Eames-knock-off chair - ordered a faux leather spray paint instead
   - dining chairs
   - headboard of master bed

Ein wichtiger Punkt auf meiner Liste ist, mich von einigen Möbeln zu trennen. Als wir 2009 von Kalifornien nach Berlin gezogen sind, haben wir etwa 70 qm Wohnfläche verloren - ein Gästezimmer und einen "family room" (amerikanisches 2. Wohnzimmer, wird meistens von den Kindern zum Fernsehen und Spielen benutzt). Hier haben wir einfach keine Verwendung für zwei Wohnzimmereinrichtungen. Obwohl unsere Wohnung für die Gegend recht gross ist, wirkt sie vollgestopft auf mich. Also weg mit dem alten Kram - her mit Luft und Platz. 


Ausserdem hat sich unsere Vermieterin netterweise dazu entschieden, an die Wohnungen in unserem Haus Balkone anbauen zu lassen. Daher wird das eine Fenster in meinem Arbeitszimmer zur Balkontür werden und ich verliere die Stellfläche davor. Ein weiterer guter Grund. Also bitte beobachtet streng meine Fortschritte in den kommenden Monaten.

One item on my list is: toss out some furniture. When we moved to Germany from California in 2009 we lost about 700 sqf. of living space - one bedroom and our family room that is. We just have no use for two sets of living room furniture. Our apartment here in Berlin is quite spacious for the area but it feels too stuffed to me. So out with the old - in with room and air.

Another good reason is that our landlady has decided to add on a balcony to our apartment. As a result one window of my office room will be converted into a door and I will loose the floor space in front of it.
So keep a close eye on me and follow my progress during the months to come.
