One of the "perks" of living in California is that from time to time you get a little shake from mother earth. This morning I was over at a friend's house for a chat and coffee and all of a sudden I felt the earth moving. At first I thought a large truck went by the house but then I noticed the ceiling lamps swinging and the wind chimes outside ringing wildly. It was only a 4.4, which is really mild. But still this is something that is hard to get used to.

Eine der netten Dreingaben hier in Kalifornien ist, dass man ab und zu ein wenig durchgeschüttelt wird. Heute morgen - ich war gerade bei einer Freundin zum Kaffee - fing auf einmal der Boden an zu ruckeln. Erst dachte ich, ein Schwertransporter waere am Haus vorbeigefahren, aber dann sah ich die Deckenlampen hin und her schwingen und hörte das Windspiel vorm Fenster ganz wild klingen. Es war nur ein 4.4er, also relativ sachte. Trotzdem eine Sache, an die ich mich wohl nie gewöhnen werde.
